Coordinator for Student Involvement & Leadership/Media Advisor

My educational experience

I completed my Master's in Higher Education Administration at the University of Kansas (KU) in 2007.  Prior to that, I served as an Americorps VISTA for Kansas Campus Compact, coordinating service-learning and community service projects.  Before that I graduated with a B.A. in Communication Technology and a Marketing certificate from Saint Louis University in 2004.

Past positions and experiences prior to joining WU

During graduate school I was a graduate assistant in the Student Involvement and Leadership Center with a focus in women's leadership and programming as well as the Freshman-Sophomore Advising Center where I provided academic advising to freshmen and sophomores.  I also did an internship with Union Programs, serving as an advisor to Student Union Activities.

As an undergraduate student, I was very active in Student Activities Board and served as an event chair for Homecoming, Spring Fever, and Can-a-palooza (Food Drive event).  I also wrote for the University News and was a d.j. for KSLU at St. Louis University.  Aside from these activities, I participated in a Women in Leadership cohort and Alpha Phi Omega.

My hometown

My hometown is Leawood, Kansas (a suburb of Kansas City).

My favorite food

I really like all different types of food, but I think my favorite food would have to be my dad's homemade pizza.  It is pretty amazing!

My favorite place/thing about WU

My favorite thing about WU is the people!  I love the diversity and energy that exists on this campus and am very excited to work with the students.

What I do in my spare time

I have many different interests, but some of my favorite things to do in my spare time include biking, playing tennis, swimming, watching movies, listening to music, designing greeting cards, traveling, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

My thoughts on leadership and involvement

I feel that getting involved on campus and in the community is one of the best ways to gain valuable leadership skills.  Getting involved in student groups, programs, or activities allows you to become part of a team and also find out your individual strengths.  The skills you develop outside the classroom combined with the knowledge you gain in the classroom will benefit you not only during college, but throughout your life, making you a civically engaged member of society and opening you up to a world of opportunities.

My favorite leadership quote

“If I have seen farther than others, it is because I was standing on the shoulder of giants.”  -Isaac Newton
